Contraceptive injection Depo-Provera
This is a long acting injection containing progestogen.It is over 99% effective against pregnancy. The injection is given in the buttocks every 3 months. It works by stopping ovulation. It also thickens the cervical mucus to prevent sperm reaching an egg, and thins the lining of the womb to prevent a fertilised egg implanting. This method of contraception works for twelve weeks. Although you can stop the injection at any time, it may be some time for your fertility to return to normal.
