At the Wolverton we can offer vaccination to the following:
- men who are gay, bisexual or have sex with other men, and who have multiple partners, participate in group sex or attend sex-on-premises venues (staff at these venues are also eligible)
- people who’ve been in close contact with someone who has mpox – ideally, they should have 1 dose of the vaccine within 4 days of contact, but it can be given up to 14 days after
Mpox is a viral infection that is usually a mild self-limiting illness not requiring specific treatment with most people recovering within a few weeks.
Initial symptoms may include fever, headache, muscle aches, backache, swollen lymph nodes, chills, and exhaustion. A rash can develop, often beginning on the face and then spreading to other body parts including the genitals.
The appearance of the rash changes going through different stages
The virus does not spread easily between people however it can spread through close contact during sexual activity. Some recent cases within the UK have been passed this way.
Anyone with concerns is asked to contact NHS 111 however if you notice a rash or lesion within the genital area please contact your local sexual health clinic.
Please contact a service by phone or online and do not walk into a health care setting without an appointment unless it is an emergency.
